Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
